New videos from Grave Pleasures

November 5, 2017 by Line Evensen Leave a Comment

We’re listening to Grave Pleasures new album ‘Motherblood’ alot these days, and thought we should share their new videos.  For those of you who don’t know of Grave Pleasures, you might have heard of Beastmilk? Grave Pleasures rose from the ashes of the last mentioned, and they are throwing us a funeral party!

Our prediction is that ‘Motherblood’ will be their big breakthrough – with a little help from Fenriz who promoted them on his ‘Radio Fenriz’. He even said:

The new Grave Pleasures is sooo good, I even went to see them live fer Chrissakes!

Their genre is apocalyptic post-punk, and if you ever get the chance to see these guys live, you really should! It’s intense, it’s dark and it’s an experience you won’t be forgetting any time soon. And a little tip from us, remember these lines:

Oh happy death
It’s been too long
I’ve come to be with you again
My friend of death
Open your arms
I’ll be your joyful native

VIDEO PREMIERE: Germ Bomb – 1000 Suns!

May 20, 2015 by Line Evensen Leave a Comment

Black Forest Magazine are proud to present the world premiere of Germ Bombs brand new video ‘1000 Suns’!

Vocalist and guitarist Hampus tells us that the video ‘1000 Suns’ was shot in Gothenburg Sweden in march/april this year and are produced by Die on the Kitchen Floor Productions.
– The lyrics in the song which reflects the video are issues about how we treat this planet and how we more or less will destroy ourselves with greed. We wanted to do something different and not just capture a band playing a song straight up and down because its boring and done a million times before!

Enjoy Germ Bombs brand new music video below:

Don’t forget to read our review of their upcoming album ‘Under a Fading Sun’, and our interview with bandmember Hampus.

Astralia – soundscapes of emotions and dreams

July 3, 2014 by Jan F. Lindsø Leave a Comment

Even though we tend to draw to darker and more extreme genres, it’s not a big secret that we’re big fans of the post-rock genre.  This other day we discovered a band called Astralia from Barcelona, Spain. And being fans of both their genre and their place of origin, we decided to get a few words with their guitarist Roger Guzmán.

Astralia

You obviously follow the tradition of post-rock by not having any vocals. As you have no lyrics, can you please say a little about what stories your songs tell?

Really good one, and tough… Perhaps I would say “feelings or emotions” rather than stories. For me (Roger), this is where the greatness of this genre lies. Instrumental music has the power to scratch in the deepest of your soul, free and blow your mind. Now, the song is not restricted anymore to a closed message or story. You can be carried along, depending on your mood or your feelings at that time. It’s kind of magic. I really enjoy when fans or friends tell us the way they feel the songs or the different things they imagine when listening, each different from the other. You can make the people dream. That’s wonderful.

Where do you draw inspiration for your work?

This question is intimately linked with the first one. I think that the three of us are really inspired by the nature, and I mean nature in every sense. Happiness and sadness, loneliness, the fresh breeze on a summer day, a sunset in the beach, looking at the stars in the mountain… It’s difficult to answer how to capture this into music, but somehow it happens. We try to write emotions in the form of music. At the end, everything is nothing but nature.

We try to write emotions in the form of music.

Astralia - AtlasHow is the post-rock scene in Barcelona, or in Spain in general?

Unlike the rest of Europe, where instrumental music is pretty consolidated, here people are not used to listen to music without lyrics. The genre is still growing, faster every day. Even so, several bands could get known in the scene (Toundra, Exxasens, Syberia…) playing in the finest European festivals. Besides, nowadays there are also people working hard to promote instrumental music by setting up dedicated festivals around the country. However, there is much work to do.

You’ve released an EP and an album. What can you tell us about the future of Astralia?

Hopefully touring, writing and recording. This summer we will tour around the north of Spain presenting our new album ATLAS. However, we want to cross the border and we will start planning a small european tour as soon as we finish this one.

We would definitely love to see Astralia on stage, so an European tour sounds great. If you’re into post-rock, you surely know what to do. Watch their video for ‘You Are Here’ or listen to their album ‘Atlas’ below:

Black Milk Clothing launches Game of Thrones Collection

March 10, 2014 by Line Evensen Leave a Comment

Some time ago we came across the news that Black Milk Clothing were to launch a new collection featuring a Game of Thrones theme. And now the time has come! The collection launches March 11th, 2014 – tomorrow. The winter is definitely coming! And you better be prepared, ’cause some of the pieces are limited edition. Here at Black Forest Mag, we are great fans of Game of Thrones, and I – being a black metal chick – love most of the stuff which comes from Black Milk. If you never heard of them, we urge you to visit their website and check out their Instagram and Pinterest.

They are a clothing line which mainly focuses on leggings, tight dresses, bodies and stash – everything nylon. Best known are probably the Star Wars collection, and Black Milks generally playfulness with pretty nerdy themes (like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter etc).

Well, back to the new GoT-collection. What about a legging with the map of Westeros? Or a little dress with dragon scales? Here are some of our favourites from the collection:

You can watch the whole collection here.

And here you can watch the promo video they released a while ago:

And since we’re at it, here is a brand new trailer from the upcoming 4th season of Game of Thrones.

We’re SO exited!

Audrey Fall – Grandiose post-rock/metal from Latvia

February 19, 2014 by Jan F. Lindsø Leave a Comment

A few days ago I discovered a band playing grandiose instrumental post-rock/metal. The band was Audrey Fall from Latvia, a country which I didn’t associate with such music, until now.

Audrey Fall is a four-piece band from
Jelgava, a city in central Latvia. Usually I think that the lack of vocals makes the soundscape a bit incomplete, but with Audrey Fall I hardly notice it.  I even think that the lack of vocals, kinda improves their music, as it’s giving more room for the instruments.

– I think there’s still a lot of people that aren’t used to purely instrumental music without any vocals, so it might be a bit more challenging to appeal to that particular group of people. But for us going completely instrumental opened a lot of opportunities, vocals somehow restrict your style. We can experiment more and focus on various sounds, says Jurģis Narvils (guitarist, Audrey Fall).

Audrey Fall – Mitau

On January 14th, 2014, Audrey Fall released their first album entitled Mitau (actually means Jelgava in German) digitally, which has received a lot of attention lately. Jurģis of Audrey Fall, also mentioned that the album will be released as a physical CD digipak sometime next month.

For touring, he has this to say:

– We’ll be playing a couple of shows in our country, but there’s currently no bigger tour planned. We’ll see how everything goes.

Anyways, we can’t wait to be seeing Audrey Fall live, and will be keeping an eye out for them. You better do the same.

Also, remember to check out their video below, which the band actually made by themselves:

Papa Emeritus II of Ghost “unmasked”

February 13, 2014 by Jan F. Lindsø Leave a Comment

It’s not a huge secret that Ghost is one of our favorite bands nowadays. Their gig in Bergen, Norway, is probably one of the best gigs we’ve ever been to.

They just released some live videoes recorded at Music Feeds Studio, where Papa Emeritus II performs “unmasked”, and without his significant pope outfit. Here are Ghost performing the Roky Erickson cover ‘If You Have Ghosts’:

I Am Heresy with teasers for new album and video

February 8, 2014 by Jan F. Lindsø Leave a Comment

I Am Heresy - Thy WillLast summer we got a chance to see I Am Heresy (Delaware/New Jersey) at our trip to New York. It was a new experience. Hardcore-oriented music is not really our favorite, but I Am Heresy, is so much more than that. They mix in occult influences, and different genres; all from more acoustic parts, to black/death metal and punk. Really refreshing, and definitely a live band to look out for.

Now they are soon ready to release their album “Thy Will” on Century Media (March 3, 2014 in Europe/Australia/NZ and March 4, 2014 in USA/Canada). They already released a teaser for the album late 2013. Watch it below:

They have even released a track from the album called ‘Rahabh’ , with a lyrical video:

Now they will soon be releasing an official music video for their song ‘March Of Black Earth’, which is taken from their upcoming album. Watch the teaser below:
